why & how we created the Ergocutter
We are getting taller, but the kitchen worktops on which we work for many hours every day do not grow with us.
Although the provision of an ergonomic workplace is a legal obligation for every employer, this is often not realized.
The standard height of the kitchen is only 85 centimeters and therefore often too low. This forces you to bend your neck and back in such a way that complaints arise, with chronic negative consequences. That kitchen counter has to go up!
But it is extremely expensive to raise the countertop in the kitchen. And it's not even a good solution because often several people of different heights work on the same kitchen worktop. After the increase, it will soon be too high for shorter colleagues, as a result of which they will experience complaints.
Can't we do better?
That's what Charlotte Strijd thought in mid-2020 when she found out. Coincidentally, because in her work as HR Project Manager she was actually looking for ergonomic solutions for office staff who suddenly had to work at home due to corona.
The problem did not let her go. It couldn't be that bad, could it? Are there any regulations for this?
After inquiry and research, it turned out to be such a (literally) painful problem that Charlotte started thinking about a way to relieve the back and neck pain of tall(er) professionals in the kitchen.
It started with a lot of sketching, searching, checking and testing and 1 year later the prototype was a fact!
When investment was required for the production, Charlotte pitched on TV in front of 5 well-known self-made entrepreneurs.
The collaboration did not materialize, and Charlotte started looking for another way to produce.
Ideal manufacturing partner
After a long search, Charlotte came into contact with the social work company De Zuidhoek in Zierikzee, the Netherlands. Besides the fact that it is great for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), De Zuidhoek is one of the few places in the Netherlands where the craft of metalworking and welding is still carried out by true professionals. The team is driven, thoughtful and reliable. There is therefore no better partner imaginable for the production of the cutting board raiser.
